Absolute values will always be nonnegative (either zero or positive). So, if you see a number in absolute value brackets, you can replace it with the nonnegative version of that number. In general, you can treat expressions within absolute values like expressions in parentheses. Use the normal order of operations within the absolute values, then apply the absolute value, then consider the terms outside.
