What Is the Horizontal Line Test?

Superman is battling his arch nemesis, Lex Luthor. Lex is firing off kryptonite waves at Superman. Luckily, Superman's laser eyes can negate the kryptonite wave if the wave doesn't pass the horizontal line test. This, in turn, damages Lex. If Lex's attack passes the horizontal line test, Superman is damaged. Superman can instead choose to dodge the attacks if he thinks his laser won't stop them.
