Spirulina is a large mass of blue-green algae that can be consumed by humans. It can be purchased in tablets, as a powder, or in flakes (shown in image). Dried Spirulina is almost 60% protein by mass. Spirulina is often referred to as a "super food" because it contains a wide variety of nutrients and several amino acids that the human body cannot produce on its own.
