The unusual and well-known pitch drop experiment was used to figure out if pitch, a thick tar-like substance, is able to flow. In 1927, Professor Thomas Parnell put a piece of so-called "solid" pitch in a funnel and he waited. In 1988, the first drop fell. The experiment was a success!
