Selective Breeding — Definition & Examples

Some of a farmer's crops have a genetic disorder that still allows them to live and reproduce, but causes the fruit they produce to rot too quickly for them to be sold as produce. Since the farmer doesn't do anything to stop the spread of the disease, the disorder spreads throughout the population.
What could the farmer have done, using selective breeding, to stop the disorder from spreading?
