Simplifying Cube Roots

In my apartment, we are allowed to have fish tanks that fit in a space of $512$ cubic inches. However, I picked up a cube fish tank that measures $9$ inches on each side from my local thrift store. Am I allowed to have my fish tank, or will I have to buy a new fish tank to hold some fish?
