What Is the Founder Effect? — Definition & Examples
Imagine you are a baker. You have a large and unique population of cakes for sale in your bakery. Your supplies, or the genes of the cakes, are also very diverse. You have a full rainbow of food coloring to use. Due to popular demand, you decide to open up a new bakery using some of your extra supplies. In this new bakery, you only have red, blue, and green food coloring to work with, so all of your cakes are a combination of these three colors.
What natural process is this most like?
