Species (Ecology) — Definition & Examples

Parasites like ticks or lice often speciate at the same time that their hosts do. For example, if a population of moles is separated by an earthquake, the lice that lived on the moles are also separated. If the moles become different species over time, then their parasites will also probably become different species. This relationship is called cospeciation.
