Cytochromes

Cytochromes are hemoproteins that play important roles in electron transport chains.

Electron transport chain: NADH dehydrogenase (with FMN), Q, cytochrome b-c1 and cytochrome oxidase pump H+ out; the H+ flow through ATP synthase makes 3 ATP from 3 ADP + Pi, with O2 reduced to H2O.

Several cytochromes involved in electron transport chains

Looking at the above image, we can see two cytochrome complexes: cytochrome b-c1 complex and cytochrome oxidase complex. Cytochrome b-c1 complex receives the electron from NADH dehydrogenase complex and cytochrome oxidase complex is the final electron receiver during electron transport.
