A capacitor is a device that can store electric charge. Well, "store" is quite vague −- is it just a bowl of charge soup? Or do we have to hold charge in our hands? Both of these sound quite unrealistic.

Capacitance is the ability of a capacitor to store charge. Every capacitor has its fixed value of capacitance. If we consider the capacitor equation Q=CVQ=CV, it is evident that

if V=1vV=1v

and Q=1CQ=1C,

then C=1FC= 1F

What is FF above?

Capacitance is the ability for a device to store electrical energy. As it does so, it convert the electrical energy which is supplied by a power source into energy of the electrical field. The capacitance is thus defined by the amount of charge that it was charge per unit voltage supplied by the power source. The capacitance depends on the geometry of the device.

Type a concept, like “slope” or “photosynthesis”.
