Detailed Steps of the Citric Acid Cycle

The Citric Acid Cycle is also known as the Kreb's Cycle. The majority of an organism's energy is produced from this cycle. It can be broken down into eight reactions.

1. Citrate: Acetyl-CoA + oxaloacetate yields citrate.

2. Isocitrate: Citrate + aconitase yields isocitrate.

3. Alpha-ketogluterate: Isocitrate converted into alpha-ketogluterate.

4. Succinyl-CoA: Alpha-ketogluterate dehydrogenase yields succinyl-CoA.

5. Succinyl-CoA Synthetase: Auccynl-CoA synthetase yields succinate.

6. Succinate Dehydrogenase: Succinate dehydrogenase yields fumarate.

7. Fumarase: Fumarate yields malate.

8. Malate Dehydrogenase: Malate dehydrogenase yields oxaloacetate.
