Examples of Quaternary Structure

Examples of quaternary structures can be divided into two primary categories:

1. Fibrous - collagen, silk, and keratins.

2. Globular - hemoglobin, insulin, and most enzymes.

Quaternary protein structures maintain their specific geometries due to bonding such as hydrogen bonds, salt bridges, and disulfide bonds.

Three quaternary structures: collagen as three intertwined red, magenta and green strands; silk as stacked sheets of fibers; insulin as a compact cluster of white spheres with red and yellow atoms.
