Oxygen is Needed as a Final Electron Acceptor
Cytochromes play an important role in electron transport. More specifically, two cytochrome complexes: cytochrome b-c1 complex and cytochrome oxidase complex.
Cytochrome oxidase complex is the final enzyme that receives the electron and it donates its electrons to oxygen.
This video briefly reviews the electron transport chain and states that oxygen captures the electrons in the final step of electron transport.
