A starburst galaxy is a galaxy where stars are forming at an unusually high rate, about 1000 times faster, hence the name starbursts. Starburst areas can be spread throughout the galaxy, but most occur near the center of the galaxy. Starburst galaxies will not last as long as a normal galaxy because the material of gas and dust in the galaxy will be used up much quicker.
