What Are Chords?

Chords are segments drawn between points on a circle's circumference

Chords are line segments that connect points on a circle's circumference but don't necessarily cross through the center point. Their length is the distance between the points they connect.

In the image below, the two green segments are both chords on the circle. The three grey lines are technically called secants, not chords. But each secant contains a chord: the segment between the two green intersection points on the circumference.

Fun fact: a circle's diameter is its longest chord.
