Every day after the 6 o'clock news, one might hear "And now here's the weather with meteorologist Bill Weatherman." Bill would then describe the movements of storm fronts and weather systems.

Meteorology is formally defined as the study of the atmosphere, atmospheric phenomena, and the atmosphere's effect on the weather. As seen in the Bill Weatherman example, meteorology is also useful in predicting the weather by using historical data, computer models, and the laws of physics.

The branch of science concerned with the processes and phenomena of the atmosphere, especially as a means of forecasting the weather.
