Expii and The New York Academy of Sciences

Expii strives to empower peer-to-peer learning. One way we have worked on this recently is by partnering with the New York Academy of Sciences’ Global STEM Alliance to highlight new voices in teaching. Using Expii's contribution feature, students in the Academy’s United Technologies STEM U, The Junior Academy, and 1000 Girls, 1000 Futures programs will be able to add their unique perspectives to Expii's growing knowledge base.

Expii: Learn by Teaching

At Expii, we believe in the power of choice. That is why we've designed three different ways to engage with our site:

1. Learn by seeing: Expii is a powerful learning tool for Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, and Biology. Each lesson includes several explanations. The explanations vary in medium and voice.
2. Learn by doing: Expii’s practice feature determines what you have learned. It gives the appropriate problems to help you advance.
3. Learn by teaching: Expii offers the opportunity to publish your unique voice. In-house editors make sure the information in each lesson is technically correct.

Expii created a webinar for the Academy programs showing how to learn by teaching. During the 1000 Girls, 1000 Futures’ communication module, we participated in a Reddit-style AMA. You can replay the webinar below.

Important Dates

• Submissions open June 10
• Submissions close July 12
• Voting for crowd favorite ends July 26
• Spotlight explanations announced August 2

What you can expect next

Once you submit your explanation, we will begin evaluating it using our criteria for publication. The finalists will be chosen by our Science and Math lead content creators. We do not have a maximum number of finalists! This means that we will publish all submissions meeting our criteria.

As submissions are published, they will be announced on the Finalists page. From there, you can view finalists’ published explanations and vote for your favorites.

Expii will choose four explanations to spotlight.

1. The Expii Science team’s favorite Biology explanation
2. The Expii Math team’s favorite Algebra 1 explanation
3. Crowd favorite Biology explanation
4. Crowd favorite Algebra 1 explanation
