Areas of regular polygons
There are multiple methods to find the area of regular polygons. We begin with the equilateral triangle.
The area of an equilateral triangle is , where is the side length of the triangle.
The area of a square is simply , where is the side length of the square.
The area of a regular pentagon is , where is the side length of the regular pentagon. This area formula is less commonly known.
The area of a regular hexagon is , where is the side length of the regular hexagon. Notice that this is just times the area of an equilateral triangle.
The formulas go on and on. There is also a more general formula.
Suppose you have an -sided regular polygon. The is defined as the perpendicular distance from the center of the polygon to any side length. The area of this polygon will then be x x (perimeter of the polygon).
