Polygons!

As soon as most people see the word GEOMETRY, the word shape automatically pops into their mind. Or Euler's line. Whenever you think about shapes, the first shape; be it a square, a triangle, or a hexagon; you think of is probably a polygon. A polygon is defined as "A number of coplanar line segments, each connected end to end to form a closed shape." This bunch of gobbledygook actually means three important things

  1. Polygons must have sides that are straight. This means that no arcs or curves can be present in the shape if it is a polygon. This sadly eliminates circles, semicircles, crescents, and other such shapes.

  2. Polygons must have a continuous perimeter. This means that every line segment must touch two other line segments, so the shape is not open. This would eliminate any shape that is not "closed."

  3. Polygons may not have sides that overlap. Some say that these shapes are still polygons, known as self-intersecting or crossed polygons, but most properties of polygons do not apply to these, so they are best considered as two separate polygons.

Polygons have universes of properties and sub-classifications that will be covered later, throughout the Geometry section!

Type a concept, like “slope” or “photosynthesis”.
