Stub explanation

A linear equation has either 11 or 00 solutions (its graph---a line---intersects the xx-axis at either 11 or 00 points). In other words, a linear polynomial (degree 11) has at most 11 root.

A quadratic polynomial (degree 22) has at most 22 roots. For instance, this follows from the quadratic formula, but there are other ways to see it as well.

In fact, a degree nn polynomial has at most nn roots---why?.

Type a concept, like “slope” or “photosynthesis”.
