Sex-Linked genes are carried either through the X or Y chromosome. Although these chromosomes carry the male/female traits, they also determine other characteristics.

For example, color blindness more often occurs in males, because it is a recessive trait linked to the X chromosome. With males, inheriting the recessive trait for color blindness on that one chromosome means they have the deficiency, because the other chromosome is a Y chromosome and has no dominant or recessive trait. With females, both X chromosomes must be recessive for the trait in order for that individual to be color blind, which is much more uncommon.
