Proto oncogenes code for genes that help regulate cell growth. A change in proto oncogenes produce oncogenes which may cause cells to divide without the proper signal. Tumor suppressors are genes that slow down cell division, repair DNA or tell cells when to die. When tumor suppressor cells don't work properly cells can grow without control and lead to cancer.
