Analogous nature of inductors and resistors

Finding the equivalent inductance of a combination of inductors in a circuit is analogous to finding the equivalent resistance for a combination of resistors.

Inductors in series:

Lnet=L1+L2+⋯+Ln⇒Lnet=ΣLiL_{net} = L_1 + L_2 + \cdots + L_n \Rightarrow \boxed{ L_{net} = \Sigma L_i }

Inductors in parallel:

1/Lnet=1/L1+1/L2+⋯1/Ln⇒1/Lnet=Σ1/Li1/L_{net} = 1/L_1 + 1/L_2 + \cdots 1/L_n \Rightarrow \boxed{ 1/L_{net} = \Sigma 1/L_i}
