Marrying Your Cousin is NOT Relative Dating
Relative dating is simply a way to establish the chronology of geologic events. For example, if a layer of sediment A is above a layer of volcanic ash B, a geologist would use relative dating to conclude that sediment A is younger than volcanic ash B. Similarly, if a fault line runs through sediment layers C, D, and E but not layer F, the geologist would conclude that the fault line is younger than C, D, and E but older than F.
