Remember that logarithms are just exponents. For example, we know that log28=3, where 3 is the exponent. This means that when we add logarithms, we are essentially adding exponents.
Now when have we added exponents before? That's right, when we're multiplying powers with the same base. For example, if I wanted to do 23×25, I would add exponents to get 23+5=28. Expressing this as logarithms,
log223⋅25=log223+5=3+5=log223+log225
More generally,
logxm+logxn=logxmn
We can also work backwards to arrive at the same conclusion:
logx(m×n)=logx(xlogxm×xlogxn)=logxx(logxm+logxn)=logxm+logxn
