Rough ER
The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is an organelle found in eukaryotic cells. It serves many functions surrounding proteins, such as folding, modification, synthesis, and transport.
The rough ER is distinguished from the smooth ER due to the ribosomes on its surface. Because the rough ER is located next to the cell nucleus, it has great control over protein processing which in turn affects protein translation rate.
