极限的数值估算

Before this, know函数的极限是什么?

First, let's explore the limit of a nice, continuous function, f(x)=12xf(x) = \frac{1}{2}x. If we try to find the limit of a function at a point for which the function is defined, then the limit at that point is equivalent to the function evaluated at that point.

For our example using f(x)=12xf(x) = \frac{1}{2}x, this means that lim⁡x→212x=f(2)=12×2=1\lim_{x\to2} \frac{1}{2}x = f(2) = \frac{1}{2} \times 2 = 1.

Intuitively, the limit describes the behavior of a function as we approach a certain point from both sides. If the function is defined at the point we choose, then the function approaches the limit and happens to equal it at the point at which the limit is taken.

(Video) Estimate a Limit Numerically

by YourCalculusHelper

Here's a video by YourCalculusHelper showing you how you estimate a limit numerically.

If you can't tell where the limit is heading you can always find the average of the two values to the left and right of the number and then add it onto the smaller of the two.

For example, in the video f(3.999)=0.20004f(3.999)=0.20004 and f(4.001)=0.19996f(4.001)=0.19996. So take the average of the two, 0.20004−0.199962=0.00004\frac{0.20004-0.19996}{2}=0.00004. Now either add this value onto the smaller of the two (in this example it would be 0.199960.19996) or subtract the value from the larger of the two (0.200040.20004), and you get 0.19996+0.00004=0.20.19996+0.00004=0.2
