Streak is the color of minerals when they are powdered. The streak of a mineral is it's true color. Minerals that get into other minerals, or trace minerals, may affect the color. However, they barely affect the streak. Because of this, streak is a more accurate identification method than color.
Streak is tested using a streak plate (hardness around 7). Many minerals have a white streak test.
